LARRY SELMAN

A South-Central Pennsylvania native, Larry Selman was raised in a military family. His love of history and art has been nurtured all of his life. These interests led him to enroll at The York Academy of Art and earn a commercial art degree in l982. Following graduation, Selman built a successful career with paperback novel illustration. He collaborated with top art directors and major publishers from all over the country. After a long and successful career as a commercial illustrator he moved into the Western fine art and recently the historical print market.

His original works are included in private collections and public museums throughout the United States and Canada. The painting titled “The Tuskegee Airmen” was part of the 100th anniversary of flight exhibition held at the Wright Patterson Air Force museum in Dayton Ohio. The release of his first print, "Hour of Liberation", followed by "Down to Earth" and “The Stonewall Brigade” all depict action on June 6th, 1944 in Normandy France. "Echoes Thru Time" The Sergeants Major from Yorktown to Baghdad was the first ever commission by the United States Sergeants Major Academy and in July 2005 the DDE Class of the Army War College purchased the work covering the 3rd ID during Operation Iraqi Freedom titled “Can Do”. The following DDE class 2006 commissioned “Coming Home” depicting American soldiers returning from the global war on terror.

His latest print release is” The Point” the 2nd US Rangers assaulting Point Du Hoc Normandy France. A short list of future works are; The 2nd Engineers at Kuna Ri Korea, 10th Mt 1-87th in Afghanistan, 42nd Division in Iraq, the first commission for the Chaplin’s Corp titled “They Were Always There” followed by the 2-4th in Iraq, JASOC, Class of 95 from West Point titled “See You on The High Ground” and the night drop at Ste.- Mere-Eglise Normandy France. Future works include creating additional paintings and prints portraying significant moments in American history.

A tribute to the U. S. Army 29th Division, 116th Regiment

The 29th Division’s 116th Regiment, officially nicknamed the “Stonewall Brigade,” landed on Omaha Beach on June 6,1944. They were tasked with spearheading the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France. Coming ashore grossly overloaded and seasick, they struggled through the rough surf, mined beach obstacles, murderous machine gun fire, and unyielding artillery to reach their intended objectives. With a heritage that is traced back to the American Civil War, the "Stonewallers" upheld their proud legacy of courage and valor.

Robert Slaughter:

A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Slaughter enlisted in the Virginia National Guard at age 15. He landed on D-Day as a member of D Company, 116th Infantry. Slaughter was an original member of the 29th Ranger Battalion in 1942, a unit that was disbanded in September 1943. Slaughter then returned to the 29th Infantry Division and landed on D-Day in the 4th wave. He served with the 116th Regiment for the entire war, earning 2 Purple Hearts. After the war, Slaughter was a driving force in building the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia.

For example, if 400 prints are made from an original painting, once they’re gone, that’s it. There is no limit to the number of open edition prints of a particular painting. That’s why Limited Edition prints are more expensive — and more valuable to collectors — than "open" edition. Rare objects are more valuable.

An Artist’s Proof (AP), generally, is the first 5% - 10% of the Limited Edition prints that come off the press. This status is noted on the print. Collectors prefer APs because their value increases even more than a Limited Edition as time goes by.
